Replacing Logs or Converting Wood to Gas?

You don’t need to arrive knowing a burner model number. We start with the fireplace: its type, dimensions, chimney or venting arrangement, available fuel and the way you want to use it. Then we help you choose the appearance and controls that fit the application. For a wood-to-gas conversion, our team can handle the gas and fireplace work as part of the project.

Vented vs. Vent-Free: Which Do I Need?

STEP 1: Choose How You Control the Fire

Control	How it works	Good to know
Match-lit	You light the burner manually and use the gas valve to turn it on and off.	A simple option for appropriate natural-gas vented configurations; no remote. *Indoor propane (LP) fireplaces must be safety pilot or electronic only.
Standing pilot / safety pilot	A small pilot stays lit and the safety valve shuts off gas if the pilot goes out.	Manual and remote-controlled packages differ; a standing pilot does not automatically mean a remote is included.
Electronic ignition + remote	The system lights its pilot or burner electronically when called on, with functions determined by the selected package.	Remote features, flame adjustment and power requirements vary by burner system.

We present the choices side by side, then confirm which controls are approved for the burner, fuel and fireplace selected. Vent-free systems have their own approved control packages rather than a universal match-lit/standing/electronic menu.

How We Size a Gas Log System

The number on a log box is only a starting point. We measure the front opening, rear width, depth and height of the firebox, then check the actual burner, control package, fuel, venting and fireplace listing. Example: A 24-inch log set does not automatically fit every fireplace with a 24-inch opening.

Gas Logs: Common Questions

Can you replace my existing gas logs without replacing the burner?

Sometimes, but the new logs must be approved for the particular burner and installed in the specified arrangement. We identify the existing fireplace and burner before recommending a replacement. Mixing attractive-looking logs with an unapproved burner is not a shortcut we can assume will work.

Can you convert my wood-burning fireplace to gas?

Often, if the fireplace is suitable. The fireplace type and condition, chimney or flue, gas supply, clearances and the chosen appliance all matter. We evaluate the whole installation before recommending a log set or a different kind of fireplace appliance.

Are vented and vent-free logs interchangeable?

No. A vent-free log set is a listed burner-and-log system with prescribed placement and indoor-air requirements. A decorative vented set has a different operating and venting arrangement. Choose the system for the fireplace and application, not just the appearance.

Do I need natural gas or propane?

We can recommend configurations for either fuel where the manufacturer offers them. The appliance must be specified for the actual fuel supply; an available natural-gas version does not mean a field conversion is permitted. We confirm gas supply and model before ordering.

Does The Fire Place by Magic Touch install natural gas or propane lines?

Yes. The Fire Place by Magic Touch is licensed and experienced installing gas lines and even above-ground propane tanks.

Can I see these fires before choosing?

Yes. Our Mesa showroom has many live-burning systems and additional log and burner displays. Schedule a private visit so we can show you the most relevant choices and explain how the flame, controls and media differ in person.
