More Than a Product Display
There’s a big difference between seeing an electric fireplace in a photograph online and standing in front of one.
Flame effects that look similar on a computer screen can look completely different in person. The same is true for ember beds, interior lighting, viewing angles, glass reflections, sound, depth, and overall realism.
That’s why we built The Fire Place more like a collection of finished rooms than a traditional appliance showroom.
We want people to be able to sit down, look at a fireplace from across the room, walk around it, compare different flame technologies and see how it interacts with actual wall finishes, furniture and lighting.

Why Dimplex Electric Fireplaces Are Part of Our Showroom
Dimplex has been developing electric heating products for decades and has become one of the best-known manufacturers in the electric fireplace category.
More importantly for us, they don’t offer just one type of electric fireplace.
Different Dimplex products are designed to solve very different design problems.
A traditional fireplace opening may be a good candidate for a Dimplex Revillusion, which is designed to create the appearance of a deeper, more traditional wood-burning firebox.
For a contemporary media wall, a long linear fireplace such as the Dimplex Ignite series may make more sense.
And then there’s Optimyst, which uses water vapor and lighting to create a three-dimensional flame and smoke effect that is dramatically different from a conventional electric fireplace.
Being able to demonstrate these technologies side-by-side is far more useful than simply telling someone which one we think they should buy.

Michele and I approach fireplaces from somewhat different directions, which has turned out to be a pretty good combination.
She tends to focus on how the finished room comes together — proportions, wall coverings, materials, furniture, colors and how the fireplace fits into the overall design.
I tend to start thinking about what is happening behind the wall.
How deep does the fireplace need to be?
What are the electrical requirements?
Can we recess it?
What are the manufacturer’s clearances?
Where will the television go?
How are we going to service the fireplace later?
And perhaps most importantly: can we actually build what we’re looking at?
After nearly four decades working in the mechanical trades and years designing and installing fireplaces, I’ve learned that a beautiful rendering isn’t worth much if the design doesn’t work mechanically or can’t be constructed properly.
The best fireplace projects need both sides of the equation.
They have to look right.
And they have to be built right.
